You know a session’s gonna be amazing when, after five minutes of being there, your kid and your client’s kid both fall into the creek one right after the other. I wish I had taken a picture of that… my son looking at me with huge eyes, thinking, “Uh, oh… I’ve done it now,” as he’s calling for help and trying to climb up out of the water. And smiling and laughing it off because who wants to make a scene? Then turning around to watch your client’s kid run happily toward the water, watching her s-l-o-w-l-y tumble, and fall face-first into the same creek. That was definitely a first for me!
Jessica, just like any mom, is trying to figure out, “How will we make this work? I planned, I prepared, we don’t have time for a re-shoot… ahhh! I curled her hair!” Kyle is like, “It’s fine… you can’t even tell.” {Because, I mean, he’s a guy. Of course he couldn’t tell.} The rest of us are thinking, “You can totally tell.” Lyla’s like, “Oops… but I wanted to play with the booooys!” And my Silas, with quivering lip and lisp is saying, “Mommy, I’m so sorry. I slipped. I didn’t know. I didn’t know, Mommy.” And then my Noah is saying, “Are you glad I didn’t do it, too, Mommy? Are you glad I listened?”
All in all, Kyle was right. After a quick repair, you couldn’t even tell. We were just thankful the baby didn’t end up in the creek. Ha! The kids ran and played, Lyla was as beautiful and precocious as always, and baby London’s chubby cheeks and sweet smile melted my heart.
This family really is one of my favorites to photograph. Jessica is a photographer, so she has a fantastic eye and always picks new locations that I end up falling in love with. All of these precious people are sweet and silly and funny and beautiful and lovely – inside and out.
I hope you enjoy the photos – pre-creek swim and post. I hope they make you smile and laugh and think, “Ummm… I wanna be their friend. I need friends like that, who can have their kid roll in the creek, wipe ’em off, and keep on going.” People like that really are pretty wonderful.
Enjoy!!!
